Swallow the capsule
You swallow a small capsule containing the deflated balloon, which is attached to a thin, flexible delivery catheter.
Position verification
Once the capsule reaches your stomach, a quick X-ray is performed to ensure it is perfectly positioned before inflation begins.
Balloon inflation
Your doctor uses the catheter to fill the balloon with 550ml of sterile saline solution, roughly the size of a grapefruit, to create a feeling of fullness.
Catheter removal
After a second X-ray confirms the balloon is full, the doctor gently removes the catheter, leaving the balloon in place for approximately 16 weeks.
